Rattle and Twist Machine

For the first time, one rig capable of fulfilling the tests of a track--without going on the track-- thus removing concerns of weather interference and other uncontrollable variables. The Rattle & Twist rig simulates both high and low frequency rattles by driving fast and slow (motors activate in-sync the wheels not driven by the engine) and left and right bend by inclining the front and rear bed from left to right. Twist action is achieved by tilting the front and rear bed in opposite directions. Rattle patterns can be changed by starting rolls under different angles. Rattle force is also variable, without changing pads achieved by paving the rolls, increasing size from left to right on the drum. This way, when steering to the right side, the rattle effect increases.

    Simulation of road conditions:

  • Bumps get heavier when driving to right side
  • Bends are simulated by tilting front and rear axle in same way

  • Rattle patterns are defined by starting rolls at different rotation angles
    (phased or de-phased run)
