Chassis dynos, as the name implies, are used to test the powertrain in the completed vehicle. Tractive effort of the vehicle is transmitted via the tires to the rollers of the dynamometer. The dynamometer controls the speeds and forces of the rollers allowing the vehicle to experience the same loads and speeds as it would on the test track or road.
Chassis dynamometers are used for exhaust emission analysis in standard certification laboratories, as well as in climatic chambers, altitude chambers, environmental test chambers, and for mileage accumulation.

Drivetraindyno

Burke Porter drivetrain dynos are used by many automotive manufacturers to test complete powertrain systems and individual components during development. The test system simulates test samples’ operative conditions in the speed control mode or the torque control mode, allowing the sample to experience the same loads and speeds as it would on the test track or road. The test results are used for design validation and test result correlation.

Vehicle chassis and drivetrain dynamometers are becoming increasingly important to the development of today’s advanced automobiles. The growing complexity in vehicle technology, driven by environmental awareness and more sophisticated buyers, make it necessary to test and verify many vehicle parameters in dynamic situations. The range of dynamometer applications has been greatly expanded and Burke E. Porter Machinery has led the way for many of the advancements in the field.
