Established in 1953 as a privately held, Michigan-based corporation, Burke Porter has been a mainstay in Grand Rapids, while continually evolving into the global company they are today. The company originally produced wood working equipment and continued this focus until the early 1970s, when the primary focus shifted to automotive test systems. 

In 1987, Burke Porter Machinery Co. began to expand internationally and reach out to foreign markets. Since then, Burke Porter has placed major emphasis on acquiring international accounts. In 2005, exports represented around fifty five percent of total sales.  Burke Porter has equipment installed in dozens of countries around the world.

Burke Porter Machinery is well known for innovative systems engineering and has gained international recognition for providing "state of the art" automotive test equipment.
